Miss Colombia Paulina Vega Is New Miss Universe 2014! Social Media Is Abuzz Over Controversial Decision?

22-year-old Colombian Paulina Vega, won the 2014’s Miss Universe title beating 87 other contestants. Vega was crowned at Miami's Florida International University.

As Miss Colombia took home the coveted title, the internet was talking about a possible win for Miss Jamaica- Kaci Fennell. Pageant watchers on Twitter argued for a bid for Fennell's win, but Miss Jamaica finished in the top 5 listing.

The new Miss Universe crowned by the former Miss Universe from Venezuela said, “It is amazing” and described her crown saying, “It’s very new, very modern, it’s very different. I will wear it with pride and excitement.”

The runners-up during Sunday's competition in Miami were Miss USA Nia Sanchez of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Miss Ukraine Diana Harkusha.

The televised broadcast also had performances from singers Nick Jonas and Prince Royce.

Meanwhile, Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao was a judge in the beauty pageant and he asked Miss USA Nia Sanchez, "If you were given 30 seconds to deliver a message to a global terrorist, what would you say?" 

Apart from the renowned boxer, the panel of judges included real estate mogul Donald Trump and TV Personality Kristin Cavallari. Trump offered a last minute advice to the new Miss Universe 2015, saying, “She has to remain grounded,” Miami Herald reported.

Vega said the Miss Universe is the first beauty contest she has participated in, and she also said it would be her last. Ms. Vega will be continuing her studies in business administration, reports said.
