WWIII

Twitter accounts of press agency UPI and the New York Post were hacked recently amid President Barack Obama's crackdown against cyber-hacks goes into full thrust after the Sony email hacks.

A tweet from the United Press International had Pope Francis announcing the start of World War III. Similar security issues and economy-related news were posted on the Twitter accounts and deleted after a short time.

Another tweet responded to recent news of the Federal Reserve's intention to spike interest rates in mid-2015.

Capitalizing on the mention of a possible interest rate hike, Twitter hackers posted on the New York Post that the CEO of the Bank of America was telling people to stay calm over a Fed regulation.

The UPI and New York Post hacks are the latest in online Twitter hacks after the Sony email hack that caused top executives their jobs. The hack was reportedly the work of a group working for the North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in retaliation for making a movie portraying an assassination attempt, "The Interview."

Reports said intrusions of organizations and businesses have skyrocketed. 2014 was host to private photo leaks of Hollywood A-listers in September, followed by Sony email hacks in November and a hack of Sony PS4 and Microsoft Xbox One video game consoles on Christmas Day by a group of hackers named the Lizard Squad.

Since 2013, hackers have gained access to private information about customers or employees at Target, Home Depot and JPMorgan Chase. One revelation that hack attacks in the last two years have exposed is a need to establish uniformity in order to deal with security breaches.

President Obama wants to pass new laws tightening cyber-security. The proposed laws enable businesses to share information with government watchdogs and protects them against litigation for disclosing cyber-crimes.
