Oculus VR has reportedly set the Oculus Rift consumer version release date to be on April 2015 if, allegedly, all goes well.

Hugh Langley of Tech Radar has reported that the Oculus Rift consumer version release date is allegedly set to be on April 2015 if all goes well.

The report says that, "The company is planning to roll out a public beta for the headset as early as April 2015. One source told us that April 2015 had been set as a release target, but added that Oculus may push this back to the summer as the plans were still not entirely nailed down."

"The company will be dealing with distribution internally, with only a pre-determined number of headsets to be made available for the initial launch phase. Apparently Oculus wants to gauge interest with both consumers and retailers before making its headset fully available to everyone, hence the limited launch" notes Tech Radar.

Meanwhile, the report also states that Palmer Luckey admits that the consumer version of the Oculus Rift would have improved specs compared to the current public beta dev kit called "DK2".

"Co-founder Palmer Luckey also stated that the consumer system's resolution would get a 'significant increase' over the DK2's 1080p display, with a refresh rate that will hit 90Hz or higher" as noted by the report.

It should be noted that Game Rant has reported that the price of Oculus Rift consumer version could very well be around the $200-$400 range:

"Company co-founders Palmer Luckey and Nate Micthell stated they want to keep the hardware in the $200-$400 range; something similar to the prices of current development kit models. The DK2 model, specifically, sells for $350" as quoted by Game Rant.
