Facebook Beta Lands On Windows 10 PCs But For Selected Testers Only; Release Is Next Year

As Microsoft previously announced, Facebook now lands on Windows 10 PCs though it is still in beta form. During the Microsoft Event in October, the Windows OS owner announced that social networks Facebook, Instagram and other firms will release their Universal Windows App for Windows 10. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg also promised that it will be all on Windows 10, with Instagram and Messenger.

The public already has a taste of the Facebook Universal Windows App on Windows 10 Mobile. In fact, Facebook recently updated its app for Windows Phone with an enhanced user interface and new features.

Meanwhile, the Facebook Beta app for Windows 10 PCs has been spotted since Friday on the Windows Store.

Facebook confirmed to Microsoft News that this is the "real-deal" and the official app will be released for public use next year. For now, only selected users, who were requested to beta-test can login to the app.

"We're testing Facebook for Windows Desktop, a new app for Windows 10 computers. We look forward to rolling this out more broadly next year," said Facebook.

Windows Central said the Facebook app for Windows 10 PC is reportedly coming in December with Instagram and Uber, but Facebook confirmed it will be next year.

The goal of Microsoft with Windows 10 is to have applications run on the platform and make those universal to run across phones, tablets and PCs. It encourages developers to create those apps and the Redmond-based firm has found a big ally on Facebook, with its CEO saying, "Facebook is all in on Windows 10."

A Facebook app for Windows 10 is not a surprise since the app runs on Windows 8. However, the Instagram app is overdue, said The Verge. The app launched on Windows Phone almost two years back but has barely updated. It still does not have video upload so Windows Phone users use third-party Instagram alternatives.
