The controversy was triggered by a post on Pannchoa, a very popular fan blog site, on May 28, 2026. The user posted his observation of how Go Younjung appeared when working with "ahjussi" actors and those of her own age.

The first post stated that although Go Younjung seemed to have chemistry with both Jung Joonwon and Koo Kyohwan, who were considerably older than her, her relationship with the other actor named Ji Changwook, was more exciting because he had a handsome and charismatic personality. The post received numerous replies with most of them calling for her to work with young actors who are her own age.

One commenter strongly urged, "Go Younjung, stop only starring in movies with ugly male leads. Work with guys like Ji Changwook, Seo Kangjoon, and Park Bogum instead," reflecting a common sentiment that her current co-stars do not match her youthful image.

Another fan added, "She's beautiful, a great actress, and usually the lead, yet her male co-stars are always ahjussis. I hope she gets paired with a male lead who is a better match next time."

Several comments highlighted the noticeable age gap as a distraction. One fan wrote, "They don't match. I don't know if Go Younjung has a baby face, but when she's next to an ajae [middle-aged man], the age difference is obvious." Others suggested that despite the gap, similar image styles helped some pairings feel more natural.

The discussion also touched on the broader casting trend in Korean dramas where younger female leads often star opposite significantly older male actors. It is even suggested that this can be detrimental to the credibility of such stories and stresses the necessity for more proper casting.

Go Younjung, born in 1999, keeps gaining popularity due to her acting skills. Yet, as shown by the recent conversation that took place on the internet, her admirers would really like to see her work with actors of the same age as she is.

In separate news, per The Korea Times, actress Go Youn-jung went viral after appearing at a Chanel event in Seoul with two completely different hairstyles while wearing the same black crochet dress.

In the morning, she wore a soft look with wispy bangs and loose strands framing her face, while later she returned with her bangs swept back into a sleek high bun, creating a more elegant, Hollywood-inspired image.
