Samsung Group Denies Selling Network Business; Reiterates Commitment To Bring Advanced Tech

The Samsung Group has been reported to be considering to sell its network business, the maker of mobile telecommunications systems. However, the company confirms it has no intention to pull it out.

The company has strong ties with big operators in Korea, US and Japan - countries with leading 4G or LTE market, plus having business relations with big operators in Europe and South Asia. It still commits to bring advanced technologies to the world in the telecommunication space, reported Samsung Newsroom.

Samsung Group is a player in the network business which contributed much to the development and commercialization of  many first technologies worldwide via 2G, 3G and 4G. It already has made significant investments every year, contributing to the speedy innovation in the next-generation telecommunication technologies like 5G and Network Functions Virtualization or Software-Defined Networking.

"Some news media have contended that Samsung Electronics is considering to sell its network business, which manufactures mobile telecommunication systems," the South Korean conglomerate stated on Wednesday.

The company does not want to break out its telco equipment revenues. Its mobile devices accounted for 25.94 trillion won of 26.61 trillion revenue of the IM division, Total Telecom reported.

The rest of the division contributed 670 billion won, and that includes the network arm, which also sequentially improved because of the increased spending by overseas operations on LTE equipment.

SK Telecoms is one of the big 5G research partners of the South Korean Galaxy mobile device maker. Together, they have built a testbed among SK's R&D facilities for testing millimeter wave spectrum of possible 5G access technologies.

The rumors about Samsung Group selling its network business surfaced in the wake of reports from Europe and South Korea, suggesting Samsung Group will exit its camera business soon due to persistent losses, reported Android Headlines.

It launched NX500 camera, its last Tizen-based shooter on February 2015 and after that abandoned all marketing related activities, if the reports have to be believed.

However, Samsung said: "Samsung will continuously commit to bring advanced telecommunication technologies to the world."
