The Samsung Pay Transportation Card Service Launches In South Korea With Partners T-Money And Cashbee

Samsung Group announced Samsung Pay Transportation Card Service in its home country through its newsroom site on Wednesday. It is a more convenient way to use transportation in South Korea. It has been live since Dec. 8, reported Samsung Newsroom.

Public transportation life in South Korea becomes easier and more convenient payment-wise with the new Samsung Pay Transportation Card Service, said Android Community.

There will be a time that consumers need not use wallets and with Samsung's offering of online and offline payment service, transportation card service and membership service, a world without wallets is coming.

"Samsung Pay's Transportation Card Service provides our customers with a much more convenient and diverse mobile payment experience," said a Samsung official. "We plan to extend our partnerships so that we can move even closer to a world where we can easily and safely make payments without having to carry around a wallet."

Paying transportation fares is done by tapping the smartphone against transportation card readers. Consumers can recharge their transportation cards via credit or debit cards registered to Samsung Pay. 

Basically, the Samsung Pay Transportation Card Service has two of the country's biggest transportation payment methods T-Money and Cashbee in one wireless payment service, or one app. Pre-registered transportation cards can be activated immediately with the import function. When registered to the Samsung Pay Transportation Card, it can be used in all transportation methods like metro, buses and taxis. People need not use different transportation cards or apps.

Recharging Mobile T-Money can be done with KB Kookmin or Samsung cards while mobile Cashbee can use Lotte cards to recharge. Samsung plans to add more credit card firms in the coming months. To celebrate the Samsung Pay Transportation Card Service, Cashbee and T-Money are offering promotions like recharge fee waivers and cashback. Consumers are advised to head to their websites for details.

According to Samsung, its mobile payment service has reached KRW 250 billion accumulated transaction volume since its August launch in Korea. The accumulated number of transactions is more than 10 million.
