Google Gives Employees Nexus 5X As Holiday Gifts; Why Not The Bigger Huawei-Built Nexus 6P Phablet?

The spirit of gift-giving is very alive in Alphabet's Google Inc. as it is said the company is giving the retail version of the current flagship phone Nexus 5X to its employees as a holiday gift. That is equivalent to $329. Ranked no. 1 as the "Best Company to Work For" in 2015 by Fortune magazine, Google is a festive company as manifested by its holiday Doodles and annual Santa Tracker.

A Reddit thread revealed employees have Nexus 5X color choices and if an employee decides not to avail the smartphone, a donation to charity will be made instead.

In 2011, the employees of the Internet search titan received a Galaxy Nexus which back cover was customized with various Android and Google icons. In 2012, their gift choices were a Motorola Razr M, Samsung Chromebook or the original Nexus 7. It was perhaps because of supply constraints of the Nexus 4 at that time, said 9to5Google.

In 2013, employees either picked a Nexus 5 or Nexus 7, depending on what they would prefer. In 2014, the Mountain View, California-based tech firm gave its employees an Android Wear device.

While it is a Google Nexus 5X as a holiday gift to employees in Mountain View headquarters,  it is not known what Christmas gifts employees of Alphabet Inc., Google's mother company are receiving.

Google revealed two Nexus devices late in September - the Nexus 5X built by LG and the bigger phablet Nexus 6P by Huawei. According to Android Headlines, some might wonder why not the Nexus 6P?

There can be three possible reasons why it is Google Nexus 5X as a holiday gift to Googlers. Perhaps because the smaller flagship has reportedly mysterious slowdowns and lags and the company might want its employees to help find out themselves to resolve the issue. Second, Nexus 6P is short of supply because of high demand and third, Google may simply just prefers the less expensive gift for economic reasons.

As per the Neowin review, the Nexus 5X sports a 5.2-inch 1080p 423 ppi IPS LCD screen. It weighs 136 grams and is powered by Qualcomm MSM8992 Snapdragon 808 which works with an Adreno 418 GPU, 2GB RAM, 16 or 32GB storage, 2700mAh non-removable battery and 12.3MP and 5MP main and secondary cameras.
