Jung Woo surprised his fans with some unexpected news. Not only was he marrying his girlfriend and former co-star Kim Yoo Mi but the couple planned to marry within days of his announcement.

The private ceremony will take place on January 16.

On January 13, Jung Woo broke the news on his Twitter account with a photo of a handwritten letter.

"Hello, this is Jung Woo," he wrote. "I have news that I want my fans to find out about first, so I am posting a letter.  Forgive my terrible handwriting but it shows my sincerity^^."

The letter thanked his fans for their loyalty and love throughout his many projects.

"I have news that I want to receive your blessing from first. I'm worried that you will be suddenly shocked, but I am gathering courage. I am getting married to my colleague and the person I love, Kim Yoo Mi, on January 16 in Seoul.

With her I hope to make my dream of having a happy family come true.

I thank you fans who have trusted and supported me more than anyone else. I am cautious that there might be less interest in the projects I am in due to my personal circumstance.

We plan on having a modest and quiet ceremony in accordance with both of our parents' wishes. I am regretful and heavy-hearted that I could not deliver this news to you in person. Please help me celebrate this new chapter in my life.

I'd like to once again thank my fans who have always supported me and helped me shine brightly."

Jung Woo, 34, and actress-model Kim Yoo Mi, 36, met when they worked together on the 2013 film "Red Family." The couple confirmed that they were dating in November of 2013.

Kim appeared in several films and dramas, including "Cruel City" and "Can We Love."

Jung Woo can currently be seen in the hit film "The Himalayas." His breakthrough role happened in the drama "Reply 1994" and he recently did a cameo in the latest installment of the "Reply" series, "Reply 1988."

According to the media outlet Korea Times, Kim's agency denied that the sudden ceremony was a shotgun wedding.
