Seo Kang Joon, currently playing the second lead in "Cheese In The Trap," may try a melodrama next. And if he takes the role in the upcoming drama "Monster," formerly titled "Tyrant," his co-star could be Hwang Jung Eum.
Hwang Jung Eum was the k-drama actress of the year in 2015 with two hit dramas, 'Kill Me Heal Me" and "She Was Pretty." But Seo did well in the last year too. Before playing Baek In Ho in "Cheese In The Trap," he played Hong Joo Won in the sageuk "Splendid Politics" aka "Hwajung."
On January 15, an unnamed MBC affiliate told the Korean media outlet OSEN that Seo had been offered the leading role and was considering the project. Seo debuted as an actor in 2012 with a cameo in "To The Beautiful You." His first major role was in "Cunning Single Lady," where he acted rivaled Joo Sang Wook for the affections of Lee Min Jung. Since then he's had roles in 'The Suspicious Housekeeper" and "What Happens To My Family." He also had roles in the films "Beauty Inside" and "My Love My Bride."
"Monster" would offer the 22-year-old actor his first leading role. The drama's hero is a working class man who takes revenge against the the wealthy elite. Given that he is determined to take revenge, he could be the monster or the title or the monster could be the entitled class he hopes to defeat. He wants to show the world what those in power are really like. The drama's story spans 20 years beginning in 1997 during the IMF crisis.
The 50-episode "Monster" will air early in April after the end of "Glamorous Temptation."
Hwang Jung Eum has not yet confirmed her participation in the drama. Although she appeared in two comedies in 2015, the former singer has done her share of melodramas. In 2013 she starred in the melodrama "Secrets" with Ji Sung. In that drama she played an innocent woman who went to jail to save her prosecutor boyfriend. She also appeared in the melodrama "Endless Love," playing a woman who wants to avenge the death of her mother.
