Friendship Grows Over The Years in "Hospital Playlist" Episode 1 Recap

The cast of "Hospital Playlist'' brings memories of their life and friendship before they become doctors. The new drama did well in its first episode with an excellent choice of characters.

Chae Song Hwa (played by Jeon Mi Do) arrived in an old house together with Yang Suk Hyung (played by Kim Dae Myung). There, a technician was unconscious after being electrocuted while fixing the broken light. Immediately, Chae Song Hwa performed CPR and Yang Suk Hyung held the patient's head. Another man asked what they do, Chae Song Hwa answered, "Doctor." They saved the man's life and sent him to the hospital. 

The following day, Kim Jun Wan (played by Jung Kyung Ho) rushed to see the mother of a young patient who needs an urgent surgery. The mother cried after telling the doctor's that they cannot afford it. Kim Jun Wan told the mother that they can help her connect to a foundation to assist the charges. Kim Jun Wan is a cardio surgeon. 

The five doctors work in a big hospital. That night, Chae Song Hwa received a call and discovered that the hospital Chairman is in critical condition. Everyone talked about the next successor of the chairmanship. The chairman has 5 children and 4 of them are either nuns and priests. This left the youngest son, who is not visible in his father's meetings, to presumably take over the hospital.

The next scene showed Chae Song Hwa as a neurosurgeon and in her office. She discussed and talked to her patients about each case. She connected and helped the daughter of one of her older patients. The mother is also taking care of her son in another building. They were waiting for a liver transplant donor and a surgeon to perform the operation.

Lee Ik Jun (played by Jo Jung Suk) arrived in the emergency room needing help as the helmet stuck on his head - a Darth Vader helmet. The surgeon who will perform the liver transplant operation encountered an accident. Chae Song Hwa convinced Lee Ik Jun to be the substitute doctor. With no further ado, Lee Ik Jun worked on the transplant and succeeded in doing so.

The Chairman died and in the funeral rites and that's where they found out that the youngest son is Ahn Jung Won (played by Yoo Yeon Seok). The four doctors confronted Ahn Jung Won why he never talked about it. He said he doesn't want to brag about it since he doesn't have lots of money. When Ahn Jung Won handled the big position in the hospital, he was able to hire his friends to work for a VIP team of doctors and doubled their salary. Yang Suk Hyung made a deal if they will form a music band, he will join the team. The only way to do this is to make Chae Song Hwa as the lead singer. Everyone agreed and they performed to play like a band with Chae Song Hwa as the vocalist.

A touching scene brings Ahn Jung Won to tears as one of his patients - a little girl died after battling 3 years of sickness in the hospital. The mother approached Ahn Jung Won and thanked him for his patience and all his staff for taking care of her daughter.  

Memories of their college years showed how they met and became friends.

We can't wait for the next episode. The story focuses on friendship and how each doctor works on their chosen field. tvN's "Hospital Playlist" airs every Thursday.
