On October 26, "Melancholia" writer Kim Ji Woon shared her inspiration on creating the new drama.

"First things first, I had no interest in Mathematics at all," she laughs at her own honesty.

According to her, "Melancholia" was solely inspired through the mathematical documentary she happened to watch once in her life.

"The noble effort of a human being who devotes his life to a problem that can't be solved touched my heart. I experienced a moment of "movement" and "joy" [while watching the documentary]," Kim Ji Woon reasoned.

As the mathematical theories should be dealt with in depth analysis, the writer surely had many thoughts. Kim Ji Won shared, "I was often branded as a "desperate person" but while writing "Melancholia", I studied with Mathematics sterling teachers and participated in the process of creating problems. Now, my heart trembles just by looking at the word "Mathematics"."

Undoubtedly, Mathematics is beautiful since it's universal and just the same in all parts of the world. However, there is still a stereotype that Mathematics is very difficult for viewers.

Kim Ji Woon debunks this prejudice by saying, "It's okay to not understand the problem-solving process. Rather than the joy of solving difficult and complex problems, I wanted to express the joy of being immersed in the world of numbers and analytical thinking skills."
