Actor Lee Eung Deok Shocks Entertainment Industry With His Passing

Talented actor Lee Eung Deok also known as Lee Eol died at the age of 58 after battling against Esophageal Cancer. His agency Streit Entertainment delivered the sad news to the public on the afternoon of May 26. According to the agency the Korean actor passed away this morning.

Mr. Lee finished filming tvN's drama "Voice 4," which aired in 2021, and he made his last silver screen comeback this January with the movie "The Policeman's Lineage" along with Choi Jin Woong, Choi Woo Sik, Park Hee Soon, and Kwon Yool.

It has been said that after he filmed "The Policeman's Lineage," Mr. Lee Eol was unable to continue his entertainment activities due to his condition. 

Actor Lee Eol also met viewers in the tvN's "It's Okay Not to Be Okay" where he played the role of Seo Ye Ji's father. He also starred in the hit dramas "Hot Stove League," "18 Again," "Love Scene Number," and  "Move To Heaven."

In addition, the actor's burial place will be at Seoul Municipal Sublimation Center on May 28. 

Lee Eol's Career Journey

The brilliant actor began his acting career in 1993 when he appeared in the movie "The End of a Short Trip." The following years, he received more scripts and continued to starred in multiple movies such as "Man of 49 Days," "Festival," "Waikiki Brothers," "Addicted," "H," "Spring Bears Love," "Holiday," "Kim Ji Young: Born 1982," and "The 8th Night."

He first established his name by acting in movies, he then leveled up his career in 2004 as he had his first drama appearance in KBS "Beijing My Love" and "Lovers" in 2006. He made a long hiatus in the entertainment industry and made his small screen comeback in 2018 with the series "Live." It was immediately followed by "Watcher," "Justice," "Hot Stove League," "It's Okay Not to Be Okay," "18 Again," and "Voice 4."

Lee Eol was the third South Korean act who died this year. On January 5, "Snowdrop" actress Kim Min Soo was announced dead by her agency, while her drama was still ongoing on primetime. 

Meanwhile actress Kang Soo Yeon shocked the whole entertainment industry after she made headlines on May 5 that she had a cardiac arrest at her home in Gangnam Seoul. She was still rushed to the hospital and underwent treatment but unfortunately after two days, on May 7 she was announced dead. Her funeral was attended by her family, friends, and colleagues in the industry.
