While rom-com Kdrama made every viewers' heart flutter, post-apocalyptic series tend to entertain the audience by keeping them at the edge of their seats. 

Centered around mass destruction like a contagious plague, nuclear war, or end of the world scenario, these types of genres feature how the character survived amid a catastrophic event.

From zombies to unexplained creatures, these are 5 Kdramas that revolve around a post-apocalyptic situation. 

'Kingdom'

Apart from its star-studded cast, including Joo Ji Hoon, Bae Doona, Ryu Seung Ryong, Kim Sung Gyu and more, Netflix's "Kingdom" became one of the hit series in 2019. 

It doesn't only touch on the thrilling scenario between the zombies but also showcases a historical and political drama between families during the Joseon Dynasty. 

In the six-part episode Kdrama, Joo Ji Hoon plays Crown Prince Lee Chang, who was accused by Chief State Councilor Cho Hak Joo of being a traitor, which prompted him to leave the palace alongside his royal guard Moo Young. 

At the height of the chaos, the whole place is being engulfed by a mysterious plague. 

Netflix also released "Kingdom" season 2, followed by a spin-off "Kingdom: Ashin of the North" starring Jun Ji Hyun.

After its finale on December 2021 through tvN, "Happiness", which stars Park Hyung Sik and Han Hyo Joo, gained popularity after it was released on Netflix. 

The action thriller drama made it to the streaming giant's global top 10 TV shows alongside other foreign dramas. 

The tvN Kdrama revolves around a mysterious drug that turns humans into flesh-eating creatures.

Special agent Yoon Sae Bom and friend, detective Jung Yi Hyun were trapped in an apartment complex alongside other neighbors and attempted to survive the catastrophic event.

Of course, the list of post-apocalyptic Kdramas will not be complete without "Sweet Home."

Netflix never fails to amaze viewers with spine-chilling Kdramas such as this webtoon-based series. 

"Sweet Home" stars Song Kang, Lee Do Hyun, Lee Jin Wook, Lee Se Young and more who get caught up in an end of the world scenario. 

A group of people were trapped inside the Green Home Mansion Apartment, where they witnessed the whole city crumble because of mysterious creatures. 

The residents try to survive as people start turning into monsters. 

Interestingly, "Sweet Home 2" is now in the works, with some of the cast reprising their roles. 

'Hellbound'

Based on the popular comic book of the same name written by Yeon Sang Ho (and illustrated by Choi Kyu Seok, "Hellbound" depicts a new religious group and how it influences its members by taking advantage of mysterious events.

Yoo Ah In stars as The New Truth leader Jung Jin Soo who introduced a new religion in preparation for the coming damnation. 

'All of Us Are Dead'

Definitely, one of the smash-hit series this 2022 is none other than "All of Us Are Dead."

Featuring Park Ji Hoo, Yoon Chan Young, Cho Yi Hyun and Park Solomon, students at Hyosan High School were on the verge of surviving as the whole campus became the ground zero of flesh-eating creatures. 

Interestingly, "All of Us Are Dead" will be renewed for a second season but the possible release date is yet to be announced.
