U.S. media outlet, Variety named Lee Jung Jae as one of the top contenders for the category Best Lead Actor in a Drama Series in the highly-anticipated Emmy Awards 2022.

In an article, the outlet predicted that the "Squid Game" star, who "has been steamrolling the competition on the awards circuit," might make history to be the first Asian to win the award.

Besides Variety, local American media such as the Los Angeles Times and The New York Times expressed the same stance and predicted that Lee Jung Jae will not go home empty-handed at the 2022 Emmy Awards.

In July, the 2022 Emmy nominations were released with "Squid Game" scoring 14 nods, most of them in major categories.

The Netflix series was nominated for Best Drama, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress for Jung Ho Yeon, Best Supporting Actor for Park Hae Soo, and Oh Young Soo.

Among their achievements are Satellite Award 2022 for Best Television Series in a Drama, Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Foreign Language Series, Best Actor, and Actress for SAG Awards 2022, Oh Young Soo's historic moment at the Golden Globe 2022 for bagging Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Miniseries, or Motion Picture for TV.

It is safe to say that this will not be the end for more awards and trophies for the "Squid Game" team as the smash hit dystopian series gets green light for season 2.

In July, the streaming giant and director Hwang Dong Hyuk spoke about the series getting renewed and officially confirmed "Squid Game 2."

Netflix even teased fans with an intriguing trailer featuring the Young Hee, the iconic creepy doll in the series.

In a statement by the "Squid Game" director and creator Hwang Dong Hyuk, he revealed that Young Hee's boyfriend, Cheol Su, will be introduced as the new villain.

Apart from it, Lee Jung Jae and the Frontman, Lee Byung Hun, will return in season 2.

Interestingly, the director also hints that the Salesman, played by Gong Yoo, might appear in the sequel.
