The South Korean entertainment scene has become bigger and bigger over the years, dominating not only domestic but also the international scene. Works like "Squid Game," "Money Heist Korea: Joint Economic Area," "Alchemy of Souls," "Little Women" and more have all enjoyed syndrome-level successes.

However, some dramas contain overused narratives that have become too tricky, controversial and problematic in the modern world.

As the new year is fast approaching, here are some tropes that fans wish to retire in 2022. Read on to know more!

The Amnesia Trope

Have you ever experienced watching a very great series and then the main character suddenly loses their memories? Amnesia has been one of the core tropes of K-dramas.

However, the majority of K-dramas have used this trope that it became a nuisance to some, especially because it prevents the lead characters from having their happy ever after.

In some works, the amnesia trope has turned the lovers against one another. The series "Master's Sun," "Her Private Life" and "Bring It On, Ghost" are best examples of dramas that contain this plot.

The 13th Episode Curse

Since the K-drama industry became global over the years, "The 13th Episode Curse" has become one of the major roadblocks in a couple's relationship.

It is an unwritten rule that at the 13th episode of a K-drama-which is the 3/4th mark of the series-a couple will break up or seek individual space away from each other.

Because of this, many K-drama junkies have conditioned themselves expecting a heartache after finishing more than half the drama.

Most often than not, the reasons for their breakup are irrational and just don't make sense. Works like "Because This Is My First Life, "Something In The Rain" and Find Me In Your Memory" are prime examples of this trope.

The Accidental Smooch

In the early K-drama days, falling into someone's arms was one of the best ways to spark romance between a man and a woman.

If it's not cliche enough, stumbling into a kiss takes it to another level. Though K-dramas are fiction, "falling into an accidental kiss" became an overrated trope that fans have unironically loved.

But as the world becomes more modernized, many drama buffs have analyzed that not only "accidental smooches" are non-consensual, it's not really romantic most times.

Some of the 2022 releases like "Business Proposal" and "Dali and Cocky Prince" have incorporated this trope to their narrative, and fans just wish this would retire in 2023!
