Apart from the top male celebrities who are dominating the big screen with blockbuster movies, several notable South Korean actresses are making their comeback in films.

From Kim Hye Soo, Kim Hee Ae, and more award-winning stars, these talented actresses are set to deliver remarkable movies this 2023. 

In addition to top female actresses, newcomers and rising female stars are ready to show a larger audience their talents through upcoming films. 

Kim Hye Soo

Following the record-breaking success of "Juvenile Justice" and "Under the Queen's Umbrella," Kim Hye Soo will make her big screen comeback for the forthcoming movie "Smugglers."

Set in the 1970s, it depicts the story of a high-stakes smuggling scheme involving two women who are also haenyos, or female deep sea divers. 

Instead of collecting food for a living, the duo unexpectedly gets caught up in an unfamiliar situation.

Kim Hye Soo plays one of the female divers named Chun Ja, and works alongside Jin Sook, portrayed by Yum Jung Ah. 

Joining as lead stars of "Smugglers" are Jo In Sung, Park Jung Min, and Go Min Si.

The upcoming movie is Kim Hye Soo's return to the big screen three years after the mystery crime film "The Day I Died: Unclosed Case."

From her K-drama comeback, Kim Hee Ae will also be returning to movies through the soon-to-be released film "The Moon."

Helmed by "200 Pound Beauty" and "Along With the Gods 2: The Last 49 Days" director Kim Yong Hwa, Kim Hee Ae's new movie is a sci-fi film that depicts the journey of a man who struggled to get back to the Earth after his expedition to the moon. 

Besides the award winning actress EXO's D.O., veteran actor Sol Kyung Gu plays the main character. 

In "The Moon," Kim Hee Ae transforms into NASA's general director, Moon Young. 

Interestingly, "The Moon" is slated to premiere this August. 

Go Ah Ra

After seven years, Go Ah Ra will showcase an interesting character through her big screen comeback for "The Childe."

Joining Kim Seon Ho as the lead star, the singer-actress took on the role of Yun Joo, a mysterious woman who will get intertwined with the second-generation conglomerate Han Yi Sa, played by Kim Kang Woo.

After the long awaited return  of the cast, "The Childe" is set to hit the screen on June 21.

BIBI

From veteran stars to icons and more, rookie actress Kim Hyung Seo, who is also known by her stage name BIBI, is part of Song Joong Ki's movie "Hopeless."

The singer-actress made her Cannes Film Festival debut along with director  Kim Chang Hoon and co-stars Hong Sa Bin and Song Joong Ki.
