'Under the Queen's Umbrella'

A mix of sageuk, political, and drama, "Under the Queen's Umbrella" made a mark on viewers as the 2022 series showcased an interesting story, not to mention its star-studded cast.

Headlined by Kim Hye Soo, she played as the doting mother and the fierce Queen Im Hwa Ryung, who will do everything to protect her sons.

In the 16-episode K-drama, viewers get to see the intense riff between her and Queen Dowager Cho, played by veteran actress Kim Hae Sook.

Apart from it, the weekend K-drama also featured up-and-coming actors like Moon Sang Min, Bae In Hyuk, Yoo Sun Ho, Yoon Sang Hyun, and Park Ha Jun, who played as the royal princes.

'The King's Affection'

For K-drama viewers who find joy in watching historical romance, you might get hooked with every episode of "The King's Affection," starring Rowoon and Park Eun Bin. The drama depicts the story of the secret life of a princess, who pretends to be the Crown Prince following the death of her fraternal twin.

Meanwhile, she crosses paths with her royal tutor, Jung Ji Woon, played by SF9's Rowoon, and accidentally falls in love with him. At this point, Princess Dam Yi struggles to hide her identity as her feelings for him grow stronger.

Apart from the duo, the cast also includes VICTON's Byung Chan, Nam Yoon Su, former I.O.I and DIA member Chae Yeon, and more.

'Secret Royal Inspector Joy'

Headlined by Ok Taecyeon and Kim Hye Yoon, the period drama "Secret Royal Inspector Joy" focuses on exposing corruption and injustice in the system.

The 2PM member played as the aspiring dumpling shop owner Ra Yi Eon, who becomes a secret royal inspector after successfully passing the state exam.

Meanwhile, Kim Hye Yoon played as a divorcee named Kim Jo Yi, who has unorthodox views on marriage.

'Poong the Joseon Psychiatrist'

Initially aired in 2022, "Poong the Joseon Psychiatrist" had two seasons, with Kim Min Jae and Kim Hyang Gi both playing the as main characters.

The 12-episode medical-historical K-drama follows the story of a young doctor, Yoo Se Yeop, who works in the palace. However, after he was framed and expelled from the kingdom, he lives with his new identity as Yoo Se Poong.

Outside the palace, he meets a grumpy old doctor at Sorak village. He then becomes his acquaintance and lives with their family.

On the other hand, Kim Hyang Gi plays as a nobleman's daughter who becomes a widow after meeting her husband for the first time.

'Alchemy of Souls'

Another hit historical K-drama that aired in 2022 is "Alchemy of Souls."

Penned by the famous Hong sisters, the series is set in the fictional land of Daeho, where magic spells, known as the "alchemy of souls," could switch souls with someone else to survive.

"Alchemy of Souls" cast includes Jung So Min, Lee Jae Wook, Hwang Minhyun, Shin Seung Ho, Go Yoon Jung, and more.
