Lee Jin Wook Teased for Joining ‘Squid Game’ Season 2: ‘You'll become a global star’

Lee Jin Wook talks about joining "Sweet Game" season 2 as one of the new characters completing the cast lineup.

For the first time since Netflix confirmed the cast members, the 42-year-old actor shared a bit of detail regarding the highly anticipated series.

In the video uploaded by Lee Jin Wook's agency, BH Entertainment, the actor was spotted in the waiting room as he waited for his turn for a collaborative photo shoot with their talent label and Marie Claire Korea, along with the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF).

When asked about an update on his upcoming activities, the actor mentioned the Netflix series, which at the time had been busy filming "Squid Game 2."

He then shared an instance where his friends teased him about having global fame through the series.

"My friends also love it when I tell them what I have been up to lately. They're all like, 'Maybe we're not going to be able to see you often following the release of 'Squid Game 2' because you'll become a global star from that point!'"

There's no doubt that Lee Jin Wook might skyrocket his fame in the international scene since the majority of the cast in "Squid Game" season 1 experienced a career boost thanks to the series.

Other than the 9-episode K-drama being Netflix's "biggest show yet," the cast was also nominated and even won various local and international awards.

Screen Actors Guild Award (SAGA), Primetime Emmy Award, Critics' Choice Television Award, the prestigious Golden Globe Award, and more.

On top of it, Jung Ho Yeon and Lee Jung Hae signed under the international agency Creative Artists Agency (CAA), while Park Hae Soo is now under the U.S. talent agency UTA.

'Squid Game' Season 2 Cast, Release Date, and More

Other than Lee Jin Wook, the Netflix series featured a mix of returning and new cast members.

Director Hwang Dong Hyuk initially confirmed that Lee Jung Jae, Wi Ha Joon, and Lee Byung Hun would be part of the sequel.

Moreover, he also hints that Gong Yoo, who played the salesman, will also have a special appearance in season 2.

As for the new cast members, Im SiWan, Kang Ha Neul, Park Sung Hoon, and Yang Dong Geun will be joining "Squid Game" season 2, as well as Park Gyu Young, Jo Yu Ri, Kang Ae Shim, Lee David, Choi Seung Hyun, Roh Jae Won, and Won Ji An, who will be part of the second installment.

Meanwhile, viewers might see major changes as compared to the first season. This includes Young Hee's "boyfriend," Cheol Soo, who will be involved in death-defying games.

As of this writing, Netflix has yet to announce the official release date of the sequel, but it will premiere sometime in the second half of 2024.
