BBC Selects Uhm Jung Hwa as Hallyu's Representative

On December 19, Uhm Jung Hwa made her debut in the famous public media British Broadcasting Corporation. She is the first Korean star to have an interview with the BBC.

As Hallyu's influence expanded, the veteran actress highlighted the content development of Korean female characters in the radio documentary interview, which eventually continues to be a hot topic.

On November 25, in the released BBC radio documentary Cultural Frontline "K-DRAMA: A global force on Screen," Uhm Jung Hwa participated as the only representative among Korean stars, and discussed the global cultural influence of K-content, particularly dramas and movies.

BBC wrote in an article that Korean dramas are now as much about women as men. In response to this, the singer-actress said, "There's a high possibility that women will play the main characters," explaining the change and influence of female characters in Korean series.

The British media also mentioned Uhm Jung Hwa as one of the most influential women in the Korean entertainment industry.

Diving into the main topic, the "Our Blues" actress explained, "In the 90s, women's life goals were compressed into finding the perfect man, and as a result, women were in the spotlight. She added that the Korean dramas and movies in 2023 that feature women as main characters have undergone many changes. And that, Uhm Jung Hwa has always been with those developments.

Some of those changes were seen in her latest drama "Doctor Cha," which became a hit in the first half of 2023. The actress then shared more about her previous character and honestly conveyed how she felt portraying the role that was completely different from the characters she played in the 90s.

"Cha Jeong Sook is a woman who has fulfilled her role as a mother and has chosen to live a life pursuing her dreams. Her journey is indeed incredible and inspiring."

She continued, "Today, I can see many strong female characters boldly embracing life on their own terms, and I feel fortunate to be able to tell women's stories even at my age," expressing her enthusiasm for the support she receives from the crowd.

Aside from acting on screen, Uhm Jung Hwa also returned to the stage and showcased her talent in singing and dancing.

Furthermore, she has always been an actress and singer in the eyes of the crowd. Expectations and interest are increasing for Uhm Jung Hwa's future actions in her career.
