While Uhm Jung Hwa enjoys her second heyday through the hit K-drama "Doctor Cha," she recalls her journey in the industry as an actress and singer.

Uhm Jung Hwa has a colorful and interesting journey as a celebrity. Starting her career as a chorus member on MBC back in 1989, her path took off after landing a lead role in the 1993 movie "On a Windy Day, We Must Go To Apgujeong."

Besides establishing her career as an actress, the South Korean beauty also made her music debut in the same year and released a studio album called "Sorrowful Secret."

From then on, Uhm Jung Hwa was at the peak of her success, being offered various projects left and right.

Interestingly, she recalled the time when people around her got worried after accepting this project.

Uhm Jung Hwa Once Doubted Whether to Accept the Movie 'Marriage is a Crazy Thing'

During her appearance on "You Quiz on the Block," hosted by Yoo Jae Suk and Jo Se Ho, the award-winning actress was asked about the critically-acclaimed movie "Marriage is a Crazy Thing."

The 2002 movie, which stars Uhm Jung Hwa and Kam Woo Sung, is about a man in his 30s who is not interested in marriage. He crosses paths with a woman his age through a blind date. Unlike the man, she is ready to settle down, but what she wants is a match based more on social suitability than love.

During the interview, Uhm Jung Hwa recalled the time when she got the offer for "Marriage is a Crazy Thing." The actress revealed that she "contemplated" a lot about whether to accept it or not since the film has a lot of explicit scenes.

"There were a lot of explicit scenes, so a lot of people tried talking me out of it," she said, as obtained by the media outlet, adding, "A lot of people worried that I might even lose the popularity that I had at the time."

Although she had some apprehensions about doing the film, what pushed her was to return to the big screen. It was at a time when her career was so focused on music that there were few offers for acting projects.

"But the film 'Marriage is a Crazy Thing' gave me an opportunity, thankfully. And I really loved the story it was telling," she said.

The movie was her big screen comeback after eight years. Following the movie's success, Uhm Jung Hwa continued to headline various movies and K-dramas, among which are "Tropical Nights in December," "Seducing Mr. Perfect," and more.

Uhm Jung Hwa on 'Doctor Cha' Success

The medical K-drama "Doctor Cha" is indeed one of the most talked about K-drama this 2023. According to a media outlet, as the cast bade goodbye to viewers, Uhm Jung Hwa expressed her gratitude to fans.

Calling it one of the most remarkable K-dramas that she did, the actress said she "prayed that many people would be able to relate to Cha Jung Sook."
