Despite the criticisms and negative feedback that "Gyeongseong Creature" Part 2 received during its initial release, the Netflix show continued to remain at the top as the most streamed work this January.

'Gyeongseong Creature' Maintains Popularity Amid Controversies

Park Seo Joon and Han So Hee's "Gyeongseong Creature" continues to rise to the top after completing its season.

On January 9, it was announced that the Netflix series took first place among all K-dramas in the second week of January, besting Im Siwan's "Boyhood" and Seo In Guk's "Death's Game."

"Gyeongseong Creature" follows the story of two young people's psychological warfare and survival in 1945 after a monster is born from humankind's greed.

Initially, the work received rave reviews during its broadcast. However, like many works, the Netflix show wasn't safe from many criticisms and negative feedback.

Previously, the drama was called out for distorting history and slandering the Japanese government as it was suspected that it was based on the experiments made by the imperial army.

It also took hits from the viewers that showed their dissatisfaction for the series after the final parts of the drama, which were described as boring and dull, were released.

Despite the overwhelmingly disappointing reviews, "Gyeongseong Creature" still received great reception, securing its spot as the most buzzworthy work this January.


'Gyeongseong Creature 2' To Return With Improved Narrative

After completing the season, "Gyeongseong Creature" struck while the iron is hot and announced the upcoming premiere of its second season.

In Season 1, the show emphasized on the historically based experiments in the Japanese imperial army. In the new installment, the relationship between the lead stars is a factor to watch for.

To recall, in the final scene of Season 1, Han So Hee's Yoon Chae Ok had been revived by the virus that lived inside the monster's body, hinting at the brewing story of the succeeding season.

Jung Dong Yoon, the director of the series, promises a much complex and exhilarating narrative in Season 2 as it is now set in modern Korea in Seoul 2024.
