Yook Sung-jae's 'The Haunted Palace' comes to an end with a touching farewell message. SBS's fantasy-comedy drama The Haunted Palace aired its final episode, and its lead actor, Yook Sung-jae, shared his thoughts on playing double roles.

He also praised his co-star, Kim Ji-yeon, for impressing him with her performance and professionalism, especially during her pregnancy.
The Yook, who stands out for his versatility in K-pop and K-drama, played two roles: Yoon Gab, a man with a warm heart, and Gang Cheol-i, the mythological figure with the Imugi spirit inside him.
They were among the performances by the star that drew praise for weaving emotional gravity with a comedic snap.
In post-finale interviews, Yook expressed deep admiration for Kim Ji-yeon, who played his romantic partner in the series. "Ji‑yeon is incredibly focused," he said.
"Even during her pregnancy, she never missed a beat. Watching her bring such determination and presence to the role was truly impressive."
The drama follows a shaman fated for spiritual duty and a man inhabiting her former lover's body, entangled in a whimsical but emotionally resonant storyline.

"Her character endures physical and emotional hardship while pregnant — she shows mental resilience and dedication. I admire that," Yook said, commending Kim's portrayal of layered emotions despite personal challenges.
The actor described the production atmosphere as "warm and collaborative," crediting Kim's detailed script analysis with elevating their scenes together. "She was meticulous, down to tone and minute details," he added.
The Haunted Palace marked Yook's first major role in a historical-fantasy setting — a genre he admitted once intimidated him. "This project dissolved any fear I had of challenging genres," he said. "Now I want to return to more grounded, everyday characters."
The series concluded with strong ratings and a wave of positive fan reactions. Yook expressed gratitude toward viewers for their support.
"Thank you so much for loving The Haunted Palace," he said. "I hope life brings you happiness, and may all your troubles vanish, just as Gang-cheol and Ye-ri cleaned out the evil spirits."
Yook is scheduled to release his debut solo mini-album All About Blue on June 19, followed by a fan concert, The Blue Journey, on June 21–22.
