K-pop idol and actor Rowoon has initiated a storm of shock among fans after revealing an unrecognizable new appearance for his next Disney+ historical drama, The Murky Stream.
The Joseon-set series follows the history of the once-pure Gyeonggang River that suddenly turns into a dirty stream and triggers a series of political and interpersonal tensions.
Before its September release, production photos and teaser shots have been released one by one but one recent shot of Rowoon took the internet by storm.
Renowned for his neat look in popular dramas like Extraordinary You, The King's Affection, and Destined With You.
Rowoon makes the new look with long hair and a beard, a sharp contrast to his typical tidy look.
"I don't believe he looks so different," one netizen commented, while another confessed, "I didn't even recognize him at first."
On Reddit, fans had a combination of shock, awe, and curiosity.
"I would have NEVER recognized him if you didn't name who it was in the title! Wow I look forward to this" a user commented.
"Excuse me ?! I can't believe how different he looks !!! Love Rowoon and you are so right for not feel okay after seeing this !" another posted.

The transformation comes after the first promotional images of Disney+, in which Rowoon was still much nearer to his signature look.
The transformation has since sparked interest regarding his character's trajectory in the drama, along with rumors on the darker tone of the storyline.
The Murky Stream will be airing exclusively on Disney+ in September.
