On Wednesday, a spokesperson for the drama series confirmed with Xports News that negotiations are in progress to produce special material for the drama's 10th anniversary. Nevertheless, they emphasized that nothing is yet set in stone.

"It's true that we're discussing content to commemorate the 10th anniversary, but no specific details have been finalized," the representative said.

The statement came after reports claimed the cast would take a group trip to Gangwon Province this October as part of the anniversary project.

The rumored trip was described as an "MT" or membership training trip, commonly used in Korean entertainment for bonding and filming.

First broadcast in 2015, "Reply 1988" was a cultural phenomenon, peaking at 18.8% and attracting viewers with its nostalgic portrayal of five families in the late 1980s.

The drama launched the careers of its cast, such as Ryu, Hyeri, and Park Bo Gum.

Ryu and Hyeri started dating after the show ended, but their romance was short-lived and ended in November 2023 amidst public scrutiny. Their past is fueling fans' interest in the possible reunion.

In the meantime, production talks are underway, keeping audiences waiting to know if the anniversary celebration will bring back one of K-drama's most controversial former couples.
