"Squid Game" star Lee Jung Jae and "The Glory" star Lim Ji Yeon will be appearing together in a new K-Drama called "Nice to Not Meet You."

Their newly released promo shots, however, have elicited strongly negative responses from viewers online, with people criticizing their visual combination and age difference.

In a report by Koreaboo, the photoshoot — which was meant to emphasize the contrasting personalities of the pair — features Lee Jung Jae in an all-denim attire while Lim Ji Yeon sports a matching pink vest and pant set.
The idea was to represent their differing personalities: Lim Hyun Joon, an old actor trying to reinvent himself, and Wi Jeong Sook, an aging journalist reporting on entertainment.
However, the photographs created controversy rather than teaching the intended lessons.
On the internet, online communities such as TheQoo were filled with criticisms regarding the actors' chemistry and the production's visual direction.
One netizen penned, "They look like a father and his second daughter." Another added, "There's absolutely zero chemistry..."
Another comment from TheQoo said, "Setting aside the age gap and chemistry issues, the hair, makeup, costume, and lighting — everything's a total mess."
Another person commented, "Honestly, like the comment above said, it would've been much better if they'd used the age difference as part of the concept. But since they're trying too hard to make them seem like the same age, the lack of chemistry stands out even more."
This is not the first instance of Korean viewers expressing discontent over major age gaps in lead roles.
Some netizens believe that production teams should acknowledge age differences rather than hiding them in the name of romance or relatability.
In spite of the criticism, "Nice to Not Meet You" continues to be one of the most highly anticipated dramas of the season, with many still intrigued to know if Lee Jung Jae and Lim Ji Yeon can overcome initial skepticism through their on-screen performances.
