Actress Song Hye Kyo has joined forces once again with Professor Seo Kyung Deok of Sungshin Women's University to produce a new video paying tribute to Korean independence activists.

On November 17, to commemorate Korea's "Day of Patriotic Martyrs," Professor Seo released a multilingual video entitled Breaking Through the Barriers of the Era: Courtesan Kim Hyang-hwa, Who Called for Independence.
Explaining the purpose of the project, Professor Seo told Maeil Business Newspaper, "This is the fifth video produced to shed light on the lives of female independence activists who are not well known to the public, following Jeong Jeong Hwa, Yun Hui Sun, Kim Maria, and Park Cha Jeong." He added, "Going forward, I plan to continue working with Ms. Song Hye Kyo to create more multilingual videos about female independence activists and share them widely around the world"
The four-minute video, sponsored by Song Hye Kyo, depicts a historic moment when Kim Hyang Hwa and over 30 other gisaengs had carried the Korean flag in front of Jahye Hospital at Hwaseong Haenggung to hold an independence demonstration.
The video highlighted how their bold cries, even in front of the police station, motivated similar movements around the country.
According to AllKpop, the video is currently being shared on YouTube and via various social media platforms and with Korean communities worldwide in hopes of educating audiences about the contributions of these largely overlooked activists.
For the past 14 years, Song Hye Kyo and Professor Seo have collaborated to promote the spirit of Korean independence movements. Their donations have included Korean language guidebooks, Korean signboards, and relief artwork from the independence activists at 39 historic sites around the world.
The cooperation demonstrates an ongoing push to draw attention to the role of women in Korea's struggle for independence by bringing together historical scholarship with popular media for a wider audience.
