According to AllKpop, the controversy began after Go So Young uploaded a video on her YouTube channel on Jan. 23 KST documenting her outing in Hannam-dong.

While recommending spots suitable for spending time alone, she noticed a building across the street and reacted enthusiastically upon realizing it was owned by her family. In that moment, she said, "Our building looks great. It's so pretty. Isn't it the prettiest one here?" She then added in a lighthearted manner, "Hello, my filial one."

AllKpop further reported that the building was purchased by her husband, actor Jang Dong Gun, in June 2011 for 12.6 billion KRW and is now estimated to be worth around 30 billion won, or roughly $20 million. This represents an estimated gain of about 17.4 billion KRW over 14 years. The report also noted that the couple is known to own additional properties in Seoul, including areas such as Seongdong-gu and Cheongdam-dong.

However, the comments did not sit well with some viewers. As noted by K-En News, criticism intensified due to the broader economic context, including prolonged inflation and a sluggish real estate market. Some subscribers felt the remarks appeared disconnected from the realities faced by many.

Reflecting this sentiment, online reactions included statements such as, "She seems out of touch," "Both the production team and the person who said it are questionable," and "Please create content that more people can relate to."

k-ennew also pointed out that the backlash was compounded by past controversies. In 2023, Go So Young previously faced criticism after sharing photos from a trip to Japan on Korea's Liberation Day anniversary, an incident that resurfaced in online discussions surrounding the recent video.

Following the wave of negative responses, the production team took action. According to AllKpop, the segment featuring the building was quietly edited out of the video without a formal announcement or explanation, suggesting an effort to mitigate further criticism.

Go So Young married Jang Dong Gun in 2010, and the couple has one son and one daughter. Despite the edit, the episode has reignited conversations about celebrity privilege, audience sensitivity, and how public figures navigate personal wealth in content shared with fans.
