Kim Soo-jin, who played Makdong's mother in "The Man Who Lives with the King," recently talked about her time working on the historical drama and shared some personal stories.

Kim told the "One Mic "YouTube channel that she was happy about how well the drama did. "I am actress Kim Soo-jin, who played the role of Makdong-eomeom in The Man Who Lives with the King."
She continued, "(As of the time of filming) it surpassed 12 million viewers tonight, breaking amazing records." She added, "Everyone congratulated me, saying they really enjoyed watching it and that it left a lasting impression."
Kim said about her next project, "I had a meeting for another project, and they even prepared flowers for me; it felt like I had played a significant role."
She also highlighted the filming location in Yeongwol, noting, "The city of Yeongwol is beautiful for its scenic views, but it also has a place called 'Eorayeon.' After visiting the spot where Eom Heung-do held King Danjong, I realized that the region itself feels 'apology' and 'mourns' Danjong, and that 'we didn't know' about it," per TenAsia.

Kim talked about the problems she had while filming and his co-stars. She said, "Boats are passing through there now. So, we built it a few kilometers away. Didn't they build it so well? I asked if we could just leave it as a memorial, but they said that if it rains and the river overflows, there could be costs involved in maintenance and repairs."
She praised her fellow actors, saying, "I knew Yoo Hae-jin well because we worked together on set, but after watching Park Ji-hoon's acting at the premiere, I thought, 'This is going to be a huge hit.'"
She said, "'Am I in there too?' I thought he had already made up his mind, but seeing that so much was at stake—that it was 'a human duty that is right and must be upheld'—I think that was the point where Uhm Hong-do started to look different. I talked about that with the head makeup artist and we both just burst into tears," adding, "Yoo Hae-jin really did a great job."
Kim talked about her own problems and said, "Personally, when my husband was a bit sick, I once called Director Jang Hang-jun and poured out my feelings." She added, "The director looked up information for me and always asked how I was doing, like, 'Are you okay?'"
She expressed gratitude, noting, "When something like that happens at home, you tend to become defensive, but he cared for me with such sincerity, and there are still things I am thankful for."
Kim talked more about her family life and said, "My husband underwent major surgery in 2022. Since then, I think we prepared three meals a day at home for a while, adjusting to the hospital's schedule. We do it a little less these days, but I believe that while treatment takes place at the hospital, meals are the best thing I can do for the people I love," according to Naver.
"The Man Who Lives with the King," which came out on February 4, is about Village Chief Eom Heung-do and the young King Danjong Yi Hong-wi, who is living in exile. It had more than 13 million viewers by March 15, making it the 10th highest-grossing movie in Korea of all time.
