Jung Woo Sung Directs The Story of A Desperate Man

The multi-talented Jung Woo Sung is planning to leave today for Hong Kong where he will attend the 38th Hong Kong International Film Festival. He will not contribute to the festival as an actor but rather participate in his new role as a director.

Jung took part in a project titled "Three Charmed Lives," which was organized by the film festival. In this project three of Asia's most celebrated actors were asked to each direct a short film about a desperate man. Jung Woo Sung's film "The Killer Behind The Old Man" explores the meaning of life and death from the perspective of a hit man.

The film stars Yoo In Young, recently seen in both "You Who Came From The Stars" and "Empress Ki" and Choi Jin Ho, who appeared as Kim Woo Bin's father Choi Dong Wook in "The Heirs." Choi Jin Ho could also be seen last year in the film "The Terror Live."

Tomorrow Jung Woo Sung will have the first screening and press conference for his film, although neither of his stars is likely to be able to attend.

Taiwanese actor Chang Chen and Hong Kong actor Francis Ng directed the other two films. Chen's film "Inchworm" is about an unemployed man who seeks comfort in video games and memories of his family. Francis Ng presents "The Tangerine," which tells the story of a fugitive's encounter with a stranger. The fugitive is a desperate man but his life is changed by an act of kindness. 

Jung Woo Sung is also currently acting in another film, "Madam Bluff." The film has been described as a modern version of the Korean folk tale "The Story of Sim Chung." In that fairy tale a virtuous daughter sacrifices her life so she can earn the money needed to cure her father's blindness. In the film "Madam Bluff," Jung Woo Sung plays Shim Hak-kyu, a university professor who is losing his vision when he falls in love.

Last year Jung Woo Sung appeared as James in the film "Cold Eyes." This year he is in the film "God's Trick" and the indie film "Don't Forget Me." His previous directorial experience includes directing a short for Sansung Galaxy S4, which featured "Emergency Couple" star Choi Jin Hyuk. Jung Woo Sung's last drama role was playing a wrongly convicted man in the 2011 series "Padam Padam: The Sound of His And Her Heartbeats."
