Lance Donovan being cut from the US national team triggered a nasty post on Twitter from the coach's teenage son as the 32-year-old soccer great said that he will continue to support his friends for the Rio World Cup 2014.

Lance Donovan was cut from the US roster for the Rio World Cup 2014 by coach Jurgen Klinsmann. That move was controversial in itself considering that the 32-year-old, although slowed down by age and injury, is considered to be the greatest American soccer player.

However, Jurgen Klinsmann's 17-year-old son, Jonathan, fanned the fire when he posted on his Twitter his initial reaction after Lance Donovan was cut from the national team.

The teen, who plays for the US soccer youth team, quickly took down the Twitter post but not after it has been shared and went viral.

Jurgen Klinsmann, in a Mashable report, also addressed his son's Twitter post in Friday's press conference announcing the final US team for the Rio World Cup 2014.

"Obviously as a father you put him in line, and he owes him a huge, huge apology," Klinsmann said, talking about the Lance Donovan cut.

He also added that his son has a "huge admiration" for Lance Donovan so the Twitter post was highly disrespectful."

"I think he got his biggest social media lesson he could imagine. It was very disappointing," the US coach said.

Lance Donovan addressed his fans on his Facebook page as he wrote:

"It has been an honor and privilege to have represented the US National Team in three World Cups. I was looking forward to playing in Brazil and, as you can imagine, I am very disappointed with today's decision. Regardless, I will be cheering on my friends and teammates this summer, and I remain committed to helping grow soccer in the US in the years to come."
