"Gone Girl" movie trailer succeeded in piquing the audience's interest with their cleverly organized selected scenes. However, in so doing, they also put Ben Affleck's character Nick Dunne in a bad light, as all clues seem to point to him as the perpetrator behind his wife's disappearance.

Variety cited this obvious insinuation upon viewing the "Gone Girl" movie trailer. In the clip, the newly minted "Batman" actor was projected as a liar who is being suspected of doing something bad to his wife whom he reported missing.

Based on the synopsis Screenrant provided, Nick (Ben Affleck) learns of his wife's absence on the exact day of their fifth wedding anniversary. There were indications of a brutal struggle in their home. This, combined with his lies and his increasingly odd behavior broke his claim to a happy relationship with his wife, putting him directly under the authorities' and the media's suspicion.

The romantic suspense-thriller is the big screen adaptation of Gillian Flynn's best selling novel. According to Screenrant, the movie goes far beyond than just discovering whether or not Nick had actually committed the crime. But to those who have read the book, they may be surprised to learn that the film's third act does not present the same scenario.

Flynn herself has confirmed this during her interview with Entertainment Weekly, per Screenrant.

She admitted that the script she has penned for the film totally alters the third act of her novel. She even went on to say that the changes she made shocked Ben Affleck.

Some readers expressed their dissatisfaction over the ending of the novel (the third act), claiming that it was not as tightly pieced together as the events that preceded it. Screenrant noted that this is a common reaction among readers of mystery novels.

Flynn, on her part, has not explained if making the changes had anything to do with her readers' reaction to the resolution. The "Gone Girl" movie trailer has not hinted anything about it either. Nonetheless, all speculations will be answered once the movie hits theaters on October 3, 2014.
