NASCAR Racing: Tempers flare at Charlotte as title hopes fade

Tags

A usually calm and collected Matt Kenseth, blacked out and attacked Brad Keselowski at Charlotte Motor Speedway. That was the headline of the NASCAR race at Charlotte that may soon cost some drivers some sanctions.

If a usually calm person is at the edge of his temper, then surely, the race as Charlotte was as hot as ever. This could be due to the fact that many of the solid front runners are not being eliminated and their shot for the title has dwindled into thin air. Some of the notable names that are at the edge of the list are Keselowski, Kenseth, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Jimmie Johnson.

As race winner Kevin Harvick celebrated in Victory Lane, activity in the garage came to a near-halt as drivers and crews watched replays of the fight.

Harvick said "When you see Matt Kenseth mad enough to fight, you know that this is intense because that's way out of character for him. When you see that emotion out of Matt Kenseth, you know that NASCAR has done the right thing to this Chase because everybody is on offense and gouging for every single position that you can get every lap."

For Chase, an error can cause you your title and there is no room for mistake at all.

Kenseth had a hard time for large portions of the race and was penalized by NASCAR before the start for an unapproved adjustment made to his car. He was furious when Keselowski hit his car on the pit road.

For now, it is still not clear whether the person involved in the rumble will be sanctioned. NASCAR vice president of competition Robin Pemberton said the sanctioning body will review the final on-track laps, and everything that occurred on pit road and in the garage.

But according to Harvick, there is no way that NASCAR atkes any action. He said "They love it. They were fighting afterwards, that's what it's all about."

He adds "I figured if we're going to play car wars under yellow and after the race, I'll join, too. Those guys can dish it out, but they can't take it. I gave it back to them and now they want to fight."
