No More Jason In The Next Friday The 13th Movie? Iconic Masked Murderer Returns To Terrorize Viewers Anew In 2015
The "Friday the 13th" movie to hit the big screens next year would once again remind people why this day is so unlucky. However, rumors circulating on the Internet say that Jason Voorhee would bow out of the next franchise.
So who would be replacing Jason?
Jason first donned that now-iconic hockey player mask and started his career in murder in 1980. More than two decades and 12 franchises later, based on the details IMDB and Screen Rant provided, Platinum Dunes, the production company owned by Michael Bay, has decided to revive his career for the 13th time. However, Jason seems to be undecided on whether or not to join the ride.
When Crave Online asked Brad Fuller of Platinum Dunes regarding the return of Derek Mears who had played the iconic role, his answer was:
"I don't know because I don't know if we're going to have Jason, I don't know which Jason we're going to have. I can tell you this: I love Derek Mears, I love working with him and he's a dream so we'd be lucky to have him. "
People misquoted his statement, thinking that he was hinting at the possibility of replacing Jason in the "Friday the 13th" movie part 13. So he clarified it: Jason would definitely stay. However, they are not sure whether Derek Mears would be reprising his role.
He clarified this via a statement on Movieweb, as featured by Bloody Disgusting:
"It was a misquote. I had just said 'I don't know who would play Jason Voorhees. Because I don't know what age he would be, or how we would use him. Are we clear about that? That was the original context of the question. 'Is Derek Mears going to be playing Jason?' I said , 'I don't know who the character is going to be, or at what point in his life we are going to be engaging in him with.' Somehow that became, 'He's not going to be in the movie.' But of course he's going to be in the movie!"
And with that, fans who have long awaited Jason's return need only wait until November 13 of next year to find out if Mears would still play the character on "Friday the 13th" movie part 13 or otherwise.
