Carl, brother of Oscar Pistorius shared some photo update last month, painting a picture of the Blade Runner's life in prison after being convicted of manslaughter last October.

The Olympic runner reportedly spends 17 hours a day in his 1.8m by 3.5m jail cell and only gets to go outside for an hour and exercise for another hour. He also shares the communal bathroom and only has a stool put there for his use.

What about Christmas? What kind of Christmas did the Olympic runner experience inside the Kgosi Mampuru prison in Pretoria?

According to South Africa's Department of Correctional Services, Pistorius and his inmates did not enjoy any special "pampering" for Christmas.

"The mandate of the department is to insure safe and secure incarceration therefore on days like Christmas in a correctional centre it is like any other normal day," Logan Maistry, spokesman for the department said last December 25.

In a previous Oscar Pistorius update, his sister, Aimee, insisted that her brother is not receiving any special treatment and the family strictly follow the rules and regulations implemented by the prison. If this is so, then it looks like the blade runner will be spending a sombre Christmas this year.

According to the South African Times, Christmas won't be as bleak as it seems however. According to Maistry, prisoners can put up decorations in their cells which they can buy from the prison truck shop, as long as they won't "compromise the security of the centre" in any way.

Meanwhile, Pistorius will once again stand trial for murder early next year. Judge Thozokile Masipa approved the state's request for an appeal to counter her initial dismissal of the murder charge.

The double-amputee shot his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, four times through the bathroom door on Valentines' Day in 2013.

According to Eyewitness News, as much as five judges will decide Pistorius' fate at the Supreme Court Of Appeal.
