Benedict Cumberbatch Joining Johnny Depp In Crime Movie, ‘Black Mass’! Will He Play Another Stoic Detective?

Benedict Cumberbatch and Johnny Depp will be up for some crime drama in the new movie, "Black Mass."

Famous for his role as a modernized Sherlock Holmes, will Cumberbatch be bringing his iconic TV character portrayal into the big screen?

According to the movie's synopsis, the Oscar nominee will not be bringing another Sherlock-like character to life. Instead, he will be playing a senator who is also Johnny Depp's brother.

"Black Mass" follows the story of James 'Whitey' Bulger (Depp), a member of the Irish mob in Southern Boston who becomes the FBI's informant to take down the area's Italian Mafia.

According to Cross Map, Warner Bros described the film as, "The true story of Whitey Bulger, the brother of a state senator and the most infamous violent criminal in the history of South Boston, who became an FBI informant to take down a Mafia family invading his turf."

Aside from Benedict Cumberbatch and Johnny Depp several of Hollywood's stars will also be joining the cast.

"Fifty Shades Of Grey" star Dakota Johnson will be there as the Depp's common law wife, while Sienna Miller will play Depp's girlfriend Catherine Greig. Joel Edgerton will be playing Depp's FBI friend, John Conolly.

Kevin Bacon, Julian Nicholson, James Russo, Adam Scott, Juno Temple, Corey Stoll, Peter Sarsgaard, Erica McDermott, and more will be appearing in the film, according to Celebeat.

Benedict Cumberbatch and Johnny Depp were seen filming for "Black Mass" in July last year. It will reportedly be hitting cinemas on Sept. 18 this year.

Meanwhile, the soon-to-be married Brit will also be filming Marvel's "Doctor Strange" and voicing Shere Khan in Disney's remake of "The Jungle Book," among other movies.

Ther reportedly newly married Johnny Depp, on the other hand, will supposedly be busy with "Yoga Hosers" and "Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass."
