Sean Bean On ‘Jupiter Ascending’ And His Character’s Hive Mentality; ‘Game Of Thrones’ Alum Comments On The Wachowskis’ Created Universe, And His Characters’ Penchant For Tragedies

Sean Bean talks about "Jupiter Ascending" and his entry into the Wachowski brothers' universe; the actor had plenty to comment on the universe the Wachowskis created, "The Matrix" mythology included.

Screen Rant scored a lengthy interview with Sean Bean on "Jupiter Ascending," also touched on his penchant for roles which involve (often) tragic deaths.

Bean commented on his character in "Jupiter Ascending," and its predominant "hive" mentality; the actor said it wasn't much of a difficulty immersing himself into the character.

"I think it was kind of jumping in," the "Game of Thrones" actor said.

"I think it was jumping into their world for all of us, because they're such a creative, such a diverse, kind of rich universe with so many things going on, so many multi-layered stories, different characters. You kinda go with that and you trust in them because of this belief, the desire they have to create something rather special. And you go along with that because you believe in them."

Bean is no stranger to fantasy roles, with previous stints in "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy, "Silent Hill," and a rather heartbreaking run in season 1 of "Game of Thrones."

The actor is notably pegged for roles with tragic endings, though, enough to consider a trend. Bean comments on the acquired expectation his future characters will likely be killed off:

"They always think I'm going to die," Bean confirmed.

"And I'm not going to tell them until they watch it," he referred to "Jupiter Ascending."

"Yeah, I think recently, in the last year or so, I've been surviving a lot more, which is quite nice. But yeah, somebody keeps these figures. I think I'm third in filmmaking of the actors who die most. John Hurt is #1, Bela Lugosi, and then me."

Sean Bean's role in "Jupiter Ascending" is described as half-bee, half-human, with a hive mentality to boot.

"I hope they enjoy it," he said of the movie's characters, now in theaters.

"I think it's just an interesting... as all the characters, they all just very interesting, very different, and very...I have not seen anything like it before. I've seen sci-fi stuff, but I've not seen it on this level where the characters are so interested in the backbone of the story." (screenrant.com)
