It was previously teased that one of the Mikaelson siblings will be saying goodbye soon. With Elijah blowing up Hope's safe house just to kill Finn's current body, viewers momentarily believed that the revenge-seeking eldest son would be the first to exit the season.
With Freya's help, though, he managed to survive a really deadly burn.
However, it seems that a totally unexpected brother faced death first instead. He may have been the carefree, unaffected witch with a penchant for mischief but at the end of the day, Kol just wanted to belong somewhere, anywhere.
He most certainly felt like the odd one out of the group, the unnoticed mischievous little brother.
In "The Devil Is Damned" episode, Klaus and Kol finally got over their grudges for each other but even the miracle of Klaus' forgiveness couldn't reverse the curse that Finn put over Kol.
The only consolation that the youngest Mikaelson had, perhaps, was the knowledge that he wouldn't be dying alone. Elijah, Klaus, Rebekah and even Davina kept him company until the very last moment.
Will we see him again? And what will happen to that mystical dagger he created with Davina?
No indication of Kol's return was mentioned in past "The Originals" season 2 spoilers. However, in "I Love You, Goodbye," Rebekah promised to find a way to get Kol back from the spirit world.
" In the past, we've seen witches die and come back, like Davina or Papa Tunde or Bastiana or Genevieve," Executive producer Michael Narducci also teased E! Online.
"We certainly haven't seen the last of flashbacks that deal with Kol and his story and his family. In those ways, fans of Kol can rest assured that his story on 'The Originals' is long from finished," the EP added.
Whether he'll be coming back this season, the next one or at all is still unsure.
Meanwhile, Freya finally told Finn that their aunt Dahlia was already coming. With Hope displaying powers beyond anyone's expectations, she will undoubtedly call the mysterious witch to her like a beacon.
On the other hand, Hayley and Jackson finally married, giving every single wolf in their pack the same abilities as Hayley's. Can their army of superwolves help protect Hope from Dahlia and Finn?
