Toyota dealers are looking forward to reaffirming the company's dominance in terms of pick-up truck sales in the midsize segment.

In a report by autonews.com last month, dealers are concerned about the production of the 2016 Toyota Tacoma pick-up truck following rumors that suggested the demand for more trucks is getting larger.

"One of the major issues facing Toyota dealers would be the lack of truck production," said Jay Caldwell, chairman of the Toyota National Dealer Advisory Council and owner of Caldwell Toyota in Conway, Ark. "The thing we heard loud and clear from 12 of our 13 regions is that we need more trucks -- both Tacoma and Tundra."

While the need of more trucks arises, a report from insidercarnews.com stated that GM is "adding a third shift" to the Chevy Colorado's production team so it can produce more to meet demand. Will the 2016 Toyota Tacoma pick up cope with it and maintain the lead?

A previous report from autonews.com said that 155,000 units of Tacoma's previous model were sold last year and the Japanese automaker plan to surpass that number this year.

"Toyota will add a third production shift at its Baja California, Mexico, assembly plant in April -- increasing annual Tacoma capacity at the factory to 84,000 units," Autonews.com noted.

Toyota's website boasts of the all-new 3.5L V6 engine with direct injection and 6-speed transmission. Rugged features such as Crawl Control (CRAWL) and Multi-terrain Select is also available for the 2016 Toyota Tacoma pick up.

Now that Toyota is facing competition with the Chevrolet Colorado, the company is confident about keeping the lead in terms of the midsize pick-up sector with the redesigned 2106 Toyota Tacoma.

Will Toyota Tacoma maintain its lead or will the Chevy Colorado surpass sales? Car enthusiasts can only wait and see.
