"The Expendables" is coming to the boob tube as an event series with Sylvester Stallone putting on the hat as executive producer.

According to Deadline, "The Expendables" TV series was ordered by Fox which tapped Shane Brennan to be the showrunner and Avi Lerner as the co-producer.

Greg Coolidge and Kirk Ward, along with Brennan, will also pen the script.

"It is described as a fun action drama that unites iconic TV stars as a new team of highly-skilled heroes who are on a mission to stop a dangerous terrorist," the article said.

Although the report has not revealed any casting yet, Deadline noted that there are plenty of action stars on small screen that it can choose to start in the "The Expendables" TV series.

The article cited as examples, "'Walker Texas Ranger's' Chuck Norris, who already is part of 'The Expendables' feature franchise, '24's' Kiefer Sutherland, 'Magnum P.I.'s' Tom Selleck, 'Xena's' Lucy Lawless, 'Quantum Leap's' Scott Bakula, 'Alias'' Jennifer Garner, 'A-Team's' Mr. T and 'Strike Back's' Sullivan Stapleton and Philip Winchester, just to name a few."

Following the Deadline report, Entertainment Tonight ran a story of ideal action stars to join "The Expendables" TV series.

Among the names in the dream casting was Richard Dean Anderson because "he was MacGyver for goodness sake!"

Then there's Tom Selleck because "it would be great to see Tom Selleck and his moustache reunite with his Hawaiian shirt and red Ferrari from 'Magnum P.I.'"

Also mentioned was David Hasselhoff of "Knight Rider" and "Baywatch"; William Shatner, who "just makes everything more fun"; Bruce Campbell of "Burn Notice"; Lee Majors of "Six-Million Dollar Man"; Kevin Sorbo of "Hercules"; and for sprinkle of youth, Charlie Hunnam of "Sons of Anarchy."

According to The Numbers website, "The Expendables" movie franchise grossed $789,708,812 in the theaters. Going by the reception, it makes sense therefore for Sylvester Stallone and Fox to develop "The Expendables" TV series.
