Looks like a good news for gamers as Nintendo may take a wildly different direction with its next-gen console codenamed NX.

Japanese video game giant, Nintendo has announced it will partner with Japanese app developer DeNA to create new game apps based on existing Nintendo characters for mobile devices.

As mobile web-based games continue to grow in market value, quickly becoming a billion dollar industry, which Nintendo has not yet explored as an avenue for game production, Nintendo has found itself out of the loop.

In the wake of investors catching wind of Nintendo's change in marketing as well as following the buzz of video game enthusiasts, Nintendo's stock value has skyrocketed, opening at $22.21 per share on March 17 and peaking the following day at $24.50. This is up from $18.22 on March 16, a 25% boost in stock value in a single day as well as a 40% surge in year-to-dare value since 2014, The Brock Press noted.

Last week the Tokyo based video game conglomerate announced that it was working on its next-generation console, and Nintendo President Satoru Iwata recently revealed new details about the device, making it crystal clear that the company may change directions with its next project, codenamed NX.

In an interview with Japanese business outlet Nikkei, though Iwata accused existing hardware of being somewhat boring, however he avoided discussing the console in details.

According to International Business Times, Iwata said expanding only upon existing hardware is dull. He further added that the company is always thinking about how it wants to surprise players and in some shape or form, change each person's video gaming life.

Judging by the fact that Nintendo surprised the industry with the NX on March 17, it appears that the 126-year-old company is not ready to throw in the towel just yet. This is contrary to speculations that hinted Nintendo may eventually give up hardware and only focus on software.

Furthermore, Iwata denied that the company's future would be exclusively in the mobile industry, like many analysts suspected. Iwata confirmed that Nintendo is still in the "dedicated video game system market."

Few and far between details of the new dedicated game platform with a brand-new concept were revealed during a joint announcement of Nintendo's partnership with DeNA.

IGN noted, in order to prove that the company's partnership with DeNA wasn't an indication of lost passion or vision for dedicated game systems, Iwata announced NX during the briefing.

Nintendo expects to share more details about the NX in 2016.
