It's official. Kim Sun Ah and Joo Sang Wook are starring in "Masked Prosecutor," also known as "Masked Investigator." And Joo Sang Wook may actually wear a superhero mask in this comedy crime caper.
The drama's producers, Kim Jong Hak Productions announced that both actors were signed on April 9.
"With the confirmation of Joo Sang Wook and Kim Sun Ah's participation, we are confident that we will produce a solid drama," said a statement released by Kim Jong Hak Productions. "The actor's talent, the comedic elements and the drama's moving story will sure make this drama a pleasing hit."
Joo Sang Wook, 36, has been a steady presence in drama land during the last few years, appearing in three dramas during 2014. He starred in "Birth of a Beauty" with Han Ye Seul, "Cunning Single Lady" with Lee Min Jung and had a cameo in "I Need Romance 3." The year before he appeared in the hit drama "Good Doctor."
But for Kim Sun Ah, appearing in "Masked Prosecutor" will be something of a comeback. Her last drama role was playing the pregnant shoe executive in the 2012 drama "I Do, I Do." The 39-year-old actress did appear in a Chinese drama in 2013, titled "Competition of Roses," and played a woman driven to seek revenge in the film "The Five." But k-drama fans, who loved her in "My Lovely Kim Sam Soon," "Scent of a Woman," and "City Hall," have been eager to see her in another small screen role.
In "Masked Investigator" the characters played by Joo Sang Wook and Kim Sun Ah will form an alliance and pursue criminals.
Joo Sang Wook plays Ha Dae chul, a prosecutor who is often frustrated with justice system loopholes and his inability to incarcerate criminals. This frustration drives him to seek justice as a masked hero. Kim Sun Ah plays Yoo Min Hee, the tough-talking chief of a detective squad in the major crimes unit. Yoo Min Hee is equally passionate about catching the bad guys and the two will wind up working together to achieve justice. They will no doubt break some rules.
Jeon San, who directed "Ruby Ring," will direct "Masked Prosecutor." Choi Jin Won, who wrote the melodrama "Big Man" is writing the screenplay.
The drama is set to air in late May or early June, following the end of "Unkind Women."
