After Brock Lesnar shocked wrestling fans by choosing WWE over professional fighting, UFC President Dana White reportedly said he doesn't think that UFC had much of a chance with him to begin with.
Although Brock Lesnar officially announced that his career inside the octagon is over last month, it looks like his name never goes away in the MMA world. Thanks to a last moment offer from WWE owner, Vince McMahon, Lesnar decided to throw in the towel on his mixed martial arts career and re-signed with the industry leader.
The news shot any hopes the UFC had at reclaiming Lesnar, but UFC President Dana White reportedly said that the UFC was never really that close to re-signing Lesnar, MMAFighting noted.
White made an appearance on 106.7 The Fan and told host Chad Dukes that he was almost convinced that Lesnar was going to pass up the opportunity to return to the UFC and will choose to remain a professional wrestler.
"We were not very close at all to signing Lesnar," Dana said. He also accepted that Lesnar's move to go back to wrestling was the right move citing the great deal he got from Vince McMahon.
White added, "He's 38 years old, man. It makes all the sense in the world."
Before losing the WWE World Heavyweight Title to Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 31, Lesnar signed a new three-year deal with the World Wrestling Entertainment.
Lesnar reportedly drove UFC to new heights when he joined the organization in 2008, acquiring exceptional pay-per-view (PPV) success and also capturing the UFC's heavyweight title with an epic victory over Randy Couture in just his third octagon appearance.
Inquisitr noted that Lesnar's health issues compelled him to hang up his gloves in December 2011, and he claims that he was lacking something mentally as he prepared for an MMA comeback, which eventually caused him to officially close the book on his MMA career.
If the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion would have returned to the UFC, he'd have a third fight with Frank Mir, who handed him his first ever loss in UFC. Lesnar, however, annihilated Mir in their rematch at UFC 100.
Lesnar also had a rematch with Alistair Overeem, who strangely called out Lesnar in February last year. "The Beast Incarnate," Brock Lesnar is currently serving a storyline suspension from the WWE.
Do you think Brock Lesnar should've returned to the UFC or did he make a smart move by closing the door on his MMA career?
