BY Julie Jones | May 01, 2015 10:30 AM EDT

If you want to see “The Admiral,” a thrilling war epic about a man who defies the odds to win a legendary battle, your odds have just improved.

The film was recently released in DVD and Blu-Ray and Kdramastars has 10 copies to give away.

What should you know about this film?

The story is not only exciting but it’s based on a real-life battle. The naval drama chronicles the Myeong Nyang and includes a dramatic hour-long sea battle sequence.

The legendary naval conflict occurred during the Japanese invasion of Korea in 1597. On the 16th of September in 1597, Admiral Yi Sun Shin, played by Choi Min Sik, was left with only 12 battleships to face an insurmountable fleet of 330 Japanese battleships. This battle and its result is the best-known conflict in Korean history. As the Japanese military charged towards the capital, the nation faced the possibility of losing the war.
But somehow the admiral turned the tide.

If you like naval dramas or films with battle scenes, consider this one a strong contender. The battle scenes are impressively realistic. The Los Angeles Times described the film as being “more epic, realistic and thrilling” than John Woo’s 2008 “Red Cliff” or Peter Weir’s 2003 “Master and Commander, The Far Side of the World.”

The film has broken records in Korea and North America. In Korea “The Admiral” quickly became the most watched film in South Korean film history. When it was released in North America, “The Admiral” quickly became the highest grossing Korean language film ever released there.
“The Admiral: Roaring Currents” is presented, produced, and distributed by CJ Entertainment. You can check out the trailer below.
