South Korean singer IU has once again demonstrated her significant impact in the music industry. Her recent remake of Park Hye Kyung's 2001 song "Red Shoes" has led to a notable increase in the track's royalties, according to data released on July 16 by music investment platform Musicow.

The per-share royalty for "Red Shoes" reached 21,218 KRW in June, a significant increase from 113 KRW in May.

This unprecedented jump represents a more than 180-fold increase in royalties within just one month of IU's remake being featured on her May album, "Flower Bookmark 3."

A Musicow spokesperson noted, "Even older songs can experience a sharp rise in royalties thanks to remakes, covers, reunions, or comebacks.

Investors should monitor artists' activities and media usage patterns to make informed decisions."

Musicow facilitates user investments in music copyright shares and confirms the registration of IU's version as a new derivative work for royalty distribution.

The platform reported that 89.9% of June's revenue for "Red Shoes" came from reproduction fees, primarily linked to albums, films, or advertising uses, demonstrating the commercial appeal IU's rendition has garnered across multiple media.

Following "Red Shoes," other tracks that have also experienced royalty increases include 4Minute's "Is It Poppin'?", C JAMM's "Beautiful", Daesung's "Baby Don't Cry", and Cha Eun Woo's "Rainbow Falling."

IU's "Flower Bookmark 3" features six Korean classics, including "Red Shoes," Boohwal's "Never Ending Story," Seo Taiji's "October 4th," Roller Coaster's "Last Scene," Shin Jung Hyun's "Beautiful Woman," and White's "Square's Dream."

With her remake, IU not only revives nostalgia but also bridges generational gaps, underscoring how timeless music can achieve renewed commercial success.
