The SBS drama "Yawang" is on the constant rise in terms of popularity. Of course, the results vary each episode but it is safe to say that it has reached the same level as the famous drama "Horse Healer" This drama was based on a comic that was rewritten by Lee Hui Myung who gained a massive amount of fans for writing "Rooftop Prince" in 2012. There is one character in the drama that stands out the most, and she is being described as the reason behind the success of this drama.

** The Element that Brings Success to Korean Dramas, "The Villainous Female Character"

There are not many dramas that didn't feature a villain in the story. A villainous female character is one of the most common elements that contribute to the popularity of dramas. In almost all of these dramas that contain a female villain features an alpha-woman who loses control of her desire to get ahead in the society and they almost always do anything to get there. The men in these dramas are always logical and reasonable while the women are emotional and spiteful. The characteristics seem to be consistent with the generalization of gender roles in the Korean society. When the women in the drama fail to get their hands on whatever they want, they become spiteful and obsessive until they get it.

The men in these dramas usually appear as characters who take on a fake identity to hide their guilt or their grudge. The male characters usually plan revenge for family related issues and are portrayed as very rational beings, as opposed to women who are portrayed as irrational and unreasonable.

Therefore in terms of female villains in Korean dramas, Joo Da Hae (Soo Ae) from "Yawang" is a breath of fresh air for the viewers. Joo Da Hae abandons Ha Ryoo (Kwon Sang Woo), the man who devoted his life to her, in order to get ahead in her career. When Joo Da Hae begins to rapidly go up the ladder in Baek San group, Ha Ryoo obsesses over getting his revenge on her. The typical characteristics of the male and female characters seem to have switched in this drama.

However, concluding from the past 18 episodes of "Yawang", Joo Da Hae is not a character who will likely get what she wants. This can be seen from the fact that she is like a psychopath who will do anything and commit any crime in order to fulfill her desires.

** Writer Lee Hui Myung, a Female-Villain-Holic

Most works that were written by Lee Hui Myung feature female villains. The villains in her works are just as crucial to the story as the main characters. The ability to keep viewers on the edge of their seats by using villainous characters is extremely attractive. Just when things are about to get boring, villains show up and shock the viewers. Since these villainous characters often find themselves committing more crimes to cover up their previous crimes, the story takes a long detour sometimes.

When the SBS drama "Yawang" ends, will viewers remember Joo Da Hae as a beautiful villain who was overcome by her greed? The drama will have to create an interesting climax in order to keep the viewers from being bored of Joo Da Hae or these crimes will just go on and on without any real progress.
