Japanese Role-Playing Game

Looks like a good news for mobile gamers as Square Enix announced plans to bring its iconic "Final Fantasy VII" game to iOS.

"Final Fantasy VII" is without a doubt one of the greatest Japanese role-playing games (JRPG) of all time, and it's now set to arrive on iOS devices this summer, Square Enix executive producer Shinji Hashimoto made the announcement at the company's E3 2015 press conference, Tuesday, June 16.

The game will be a port of the original PlayStation release of Final Fantasy VII, and not a version of the recently released Fantasy VII Remake.

According to records on BBC, over 3.5 million people have watched the online trailer for the remake of the "Final Fantasy VII" since it was announced at E3. The game will be exclusive to the PlayStation 4.

With mindboggling 3,591,553 views, the game is currently the most watched trailer on PlayStation's E3 channel.

According to BBC's Adam Rosse, It is a "marker game" for a generation of players that are now in their 30s and 40s.

Rosser, who presents the Game On Podcast on BBC Radio Five Live said, "For lots of people Final Fantasy reminds them of that moment when games started to make sense to them."

"There is a lot of love for Final Fantasy VII. People liked it when they first played it, they have very fond memories of it", he noted.

"Is it any surprise that it attracts an enormous amount of attention?"

Rosser even pointed out that Nintendo's "The Legend of Zelda" has similar appeal for an older crowd. The game was released in 1986.

"If you sit down with a Japanese role-playing game and you engage with it, it's going to have a quality that keeps bringing you back," Rosser said.

Square Enix has released an array of original titles and classic ports on iOS as well as Android in the past. The company has long been a supporter of mobile platforms. The "Final Fantasy VII" iOS port follow in footstep of "Final Fantasy" I - VI, all of which are also available on iOS, according to records on IGN.

"Final Fantasy VII" takes about 45 to 55 hours to finish, in fact, even longer if a player wants to complete everything. Thus, its obvious that the game was not initially designed to be played while on the go.

There are no details on release date, or price as of now.

In another announcement, Square Enix revealed that the HD version of "Final Fantasy VII," (which is basically same one as the PC version) for PS4 has been delayed until December. The game was initially scheduled to be available on PS4 this spring.
