A newly released teaser for the upcoming historical romance drama "Perfect Crown" has sparked discussion online after showcasing actor Byeon Woo-seok in the role of Grand Prince Yi Ahn. The series, which also stars singer-actress IU, is scheduled to premiere April 10 on Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC).

The teaser introduces Yi Ahn as a complex figure whose life changes when love unexpectedly enters his world. According to a description shared through a report on Naver, the character is portrayed as both guarded and vulnerable as he grows closer to Sung Hee-joo, played by IU.
A synopsis of the teaser described the emotional shift in the prince's character as the story unfolds. The report explained that "even Prince Yi Ahn, who is so guarded, reveals a tender side instead of his cool charisma in front of Sung Hee-joo (IU)."
The same description further highlighted several moments that show the prince's softer demeanor toward the female lead. It added that he comforts her with lines such as "Stay still," "Are you scared?", and "It's for you," while also appearing as "a reliable man who enjoys a waltz with her in comfortable clothes."
The teaser also hints at darker developments surrounding the royal figure. According to the publication, tension builds when forces begin targeting the prince, echoing a warning from Queen Dowager Yun Ilang that "hunting inherently requires patience."
Another moment in the preview suggests rising danger for the character. The description noted that "a fierce chase on the road and Prince Ian's face bleeding from the head heighten unease," raising questions about what may happen to Yi Ahn as the story progresses.
Following the teaser's release, online communities began discussing the actor's performance. Comments translated and shared by Pannchoa from a discussion thread on theqoo reflected sharply divided reactions from viewers.
Some commenters criticized the performance in blunt terms. One user wrote, "Damn, I'd never seen him act before and thought he was just a pretty face from commercials and events, but f*ck, is this acting? All I can do is laugh at it."
Another viewer questioned the actor's delivery in the teaser, stating, "What's with his acting...? He was wooden, then his expression was grotesque, he manages to do both of those difficult things."
However, other users defended the preview and expressed interest in the drama. One commenter said, "His acting was fine? His face is handsome and his character looks good too. I think it will be fun. Looking forward to it."
The mixed reactions highlight growing curiosity around the upcoming series as its premiere approaches.
