When Jessica Jung left Girls Generation suddenly last year fans wondered whether she would one day also leave SM Entertainment, the agency that represents the group. She remained with the agency for almost a year, but according to the Korean media outlet Chosun Ilbo, Jung has finally left the agency.

"After discussing with Jessica, we have decided that she will leave the entertainment company for the better," said a statement released by SM Entertainment on August 6. "We greatly wish that people support Jessica, who will be making a new start."

Jung joined Girls Generation in 2007 and during her seven years with the group, danced, modeled, sang, acted and launched a fashion brand, Blanc & Eclare.

In September 2014 the "Wild Romance" actress surprised fans by remarking on her Weibo account that she was leaving the group. Shortly after that SM Entertainment issued a statement saying that she left the group because the responsibilities required by her new fashion brand conflicted with her performing schedule.

Jessica launched the fashion line in 2014 and that year opened her first store in Hong Kong. According to Jessica, the group was well aware of her plans and supported her. So did her sister, "My Lovable Girl" actress and f(x) member Krystal Jung.

Conflicting statements created controversy about her departure. SM said that she notified them earlier in the year that she would leave the group due to personal obligations. They did not say whether the agency and the singer had agreed on a specific date. Although she left Girls Generation, SM publicly promised to support her, whatever she did.

"The company will continuously support Jessica and manage her schedule."

On August 6, the same day that SM Entertainment released the statement about her depature from the agency. Jessica Jung also issued a statement, which was published in The Korea Times.

"I would like to let everyone know that I have officially terminated my contract with SM after much discussion and both parties have decided to officially go on each other's way. I cherish all the time I spent with SM and wish the best for the company. I would like to thank all the fans for your love and support. I will also do my best to live up to my fans expectations. I would like to ask you to watch over my new beginning."

There were rumors that Jessica was planning to release a solo album in China, but SM has denied those rumors.
