Why Baek Ji Young Is Known As the OST Queen

Baek Ji Young recently made kdrama news for her marriage to actor Jung Suk Won, but kdrama fans have known her for a while in her role as OST Queen.

The singer contributed her beautiful voice to several popular kdramas. Her most recent contribution is "Spring Rain," a song that sums up new love for the hit series, "Gu Family Book." With lyrics like, "Love comes to me like spring rain," the ballad conveys the awakening love between the drama's characters Choi Kang Chi and Dam Yeo Wool.

If you wonder why she decided to sing for this drama, you can blame it on the character of Dam Yeo Wool, played by Suzy. She is a girl who knows no fear and stands by her man, even if he is part monster. Baek Ji Young admired her.

"I love to participate in producing music for dramas, especially if I like the female lead after reading the script," said Baek Ji Young. "It's a thrill to hear my song played during the drama's melodramatic moments."

Her most popular soundtrack contribution to date has been the song "That Woman" for the drama "Secret Garden." The soundtrack won the Outstanding Korean Drama OST at the 2011 Seoul International Drama Awards.

Other soundtrack songs she contributed include "Don't Forget" for "Iris," "Love Is Not A Crime" for Ja Myung Go, "Today I love You" for "Princess' Man," "It Hurts Here" for "A Thousand Days' Promise," "After A Long Time" for "Rooftop Prince" and "Love and Love" for "Arang and the Magistrate."

This year, she released an album titled "Flash Back," which contains a collection of her best drama soundtracks.

As a singer, she did not start out with the idea of specializing in soundtracks. Although she often sings ballads, she is well known for her dance tracks. Her first single, "Choice" was one of the first kpop songs to feature a Latin beat.

Midway through her career, she underwent vocal surgery to remove a cyst and worried that her singing voice might suffer. She came back stronger than ever, shortly after surgery releasing a seventh album, "Sensibility." She has collaborated with several performers, including hip-hop duo Mighty Mouth, Yuri, Kim Jae Joong of JYJ and Yong Jun Hyung of B2ST.

She had her first solo concert in seven years earlier this year. That's when Jung Suk Won proposed to her and asked the OST Queen to become his wife.
